BEST BEACHES IN FRANCE
Best Beaches in France
As the temperatures start to rise and the sun begins to shine, where else would you rather be than at the beach? Luckily, France is home to many of the best beaches in the world and has a whole lot to offer. If you feel the need for a break, dig your swimming costume and flipflops out from the back of your wardrobe and explore some of the best beaches in France this summer. In just a simple train ride away, you could be sunbathing on the sand and swimming in the ocean in just a matter of hours.
- Le-Bois-Plage-en-Ré, Ile de Ré
This island just off La Rochelle is a perfect place to relax away from the city, and in a truly spectacular setting. Slow down and unwind on this charmingly preserved island where bicycles are the main mode of transport and donkeys roam the streets! Head to the southern side of the island for the best beaches such as Le-Bois-Plage-en-Ré, the most popular on the island.
- La Grande Motte, Montpellier
This is by far the nicest of Montpellier’s sandy beaches. Make sure to stay late and enjoy a cocktail in one of their many beach bars overlooking the sunset.
- Plage des Marinières, Villefranche-sur-Mer near Nice
If you feel like getting away from the crowded beaches of Nice, head over to the nearby town of Villefranche-sur-Mer. The Plage des Marinières is great for enjoying a relaxing sunbathe and reading your book under the warm sun.
- Calanques de Cassis, near Marseille
These are more creeks and coves than the classic sandy beaches that you might expect of the Mediterranean but they are beautiful all the same. These calanques are noted as a national park and sit off the coast of Marseille. With some only accessible by hike or kayak, these hidden beaches are stunningly undisturbed, and well worth the journey!
- Paris Plages, Paris
Whilst it may not be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of a beach holiday, Paris is another fantastic beach destination! Lie down looking on over the calm ripples of the Seine, the lulling sounds of the traffic going by and children shouting and playing. Whilst it may not seem as appealing as the other more luxurious beaches, the various Paris Plages are always great fun!
