Le Carnaval Des Femmes

Sunday 11th March – Paris

Also known as the Fête des Blanchisseuses (‘The Washerwomen’s Festival’), Le Carnaval des Femmes was inspired by an old tradition, by which the laundrywoman of Paris would elect a queen for the day, and then parade with her through the streets, joyous and decked out in their best clothes. Nowadays, on the day of the Carnaval, all women become queen for the day, and are invited to join the parade, which, this year, will take place around Châtelet.
