There are plenty of activities on offer, so we’ve compiled a selection of all the low cost events that can be enjoyed in the build up to the festive season, as well as some free exhibitions that may interest you if you want to escape the celebrations for an hour or two.

56, rue Stephenson, 75018 Paris

This exhibition, brought to us by the Institut des Cultures d’Islam, explores the relationship between Islamic art and calligraphy, incorporating writing into images to create a delicate and multi-faceted effect which interrogates the nature of spirituality and authority. The artistry of this collection is not just limited to the Institut des Cultures d’Islam; pieces will be exhibited across Paris, incorporating aspects of streetdance and poetry to bring the art to life.

Christmas Trees & Lights

Take a tour of Paris’s Christmas tree and light displays, moving from Galeries Lafayette, to the Champs-Elysées, to Cathédrale Notre Dame de Paris, to Place de la Bastille! The decorations will be up until the middle of January, so you will have plenty of time to explore the city’s winter wonderland.

Ice Rinks

This December, you will be able to enjoy Paris’s landmarks in a unique way: on ice! At the beginning of winter, ice rinks are constructed at Hôtel de Ville, the Eiffel Tower and Trocadéro to name just a few locations, so don’t miss this chance to make the most of this new form of tourism, as they won’t be there for long! Entry to the rinks is normally free, and skate hire sits at a fairly reasonable 5€.

Femmes Du Monde à La Galerie Polka

Until 20 January 2018, Tuesday to Saturday 11am-7pm
Galerie Polka, cour de Venise, 12 rue Saint-Gilles, 75003 Paris

This exhibition unites the works of photographers Sebastião Salgado and Marc Riboud, as they explore what it is to be a woman in various locations around the world, in the midst of an experience of poverty, or war, or discrimination or violence. The result is a striking series of pictures which invite and interrogate, question and explain all at once.
