Journée à Giverny

Journée à Giverny – SUNDAY 11th JUNE

With our partner To Be Erasmus in Paris

Take a trip out of Paris and spend the ‘journée à Giverny’, the historic stomping ground of the renowned painter, Claude Monet. As seen in his works, Monet was passionate about and in turn, inspired, by gardening, flowers and water. He took care over his garden and designed it as a work of art in itself. Immerse yourself in the beauty of his imagination surrounded by oriental plants, weeping willows, water lilies and a Japanese bridge in this magnificent feat of landscape design. Giverny, his house, is a treasure chest of memories including his former salon-atelier (his workshop) and his impressive collection of Japanese prints.

The old mill of Vernon or the ‘Vieux Moulin de Vernon’ is located just a few kilometres from Giverny. This simple timbered house was constructed by hand in the 16th century and straddles two of the piers of a medieval bridge. This old water mill, which has become emblematic of the town of Vernon, sits on the right bank of the Seine. Today the old mill is one of the only, or very few, buildings on a bridge in France. You may recognise it and the surrounding area as the subject of painter Claude Monet’s Canvas of 1883.

Leave from Paris in the morning and head to Vernon where you will stop for lunch and a visit of the old mill. After lunch you will arrive in Giverny in the early afternoon where you can take time to explore Monet’s House and Gardens and the Museum of Impressionism
