English Speaking Jobs in Lyon

Babylangues specialises in early language acquisition in the Lyon area and offers opportunities for part-time jobs in Lyon.

With much more to offer than its opulent and lavish façade would imply, Lyon is a city comprising of secret passageways, hidden alleys and tucked away courtyards. Its medieval Old Town, known as Vieux-Lyon, is one of the best preserved in Europe. In an unparalleled mix of Renaissance, Romanesque and Gothic architecture, this district is made up of cobbled alleyways, boutique shops, wine bars and quaint restaurants. Lyon is considered to be the culinary capital of France, an impressive accolade considering the country’s gastronomic excellence.

The city was first established by the Romans in 43BC on the Fourvière hill, where today stands the Basilica of Notre Dame, a magnificent structure completed in 1876 to pay homage to the Virgin Mary for the safe return of men from the Franco-Prussian War. With the invention of the Cinematograph projector by Auguste and Louis Lumière a few decades later in 1895, Lyon is also heralded as the birthplace of cinema and is home to the Lumière Institute Museum.

Combined with its vibrant history, Lyon is renowned for its extravagant festivals, most notably its annual Fête des Lumières, held on 8th December. What began in 1852 with thousands of citizens placing candles in their windows now sees many important buildings lit up over four days in a spectacular and mesmerising fashion. During the summer months, Lyon hosts Les Nuits de Fourvière, an exciting celebration of dance, theatre and music in the open-air Roman theatre, Théâtre antique de Fourvière.
